As the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) marks its 15th anniversary, CEO Sandra Watson says the state’s economic evolution has been remarkable. Fueled by unprecedented investment, particularly from the semiconductor industry, Arizona experienced its strongest year ever for economic development.
According to the ACA’s latest fiscal year annual report, companies announced more than $109 billion in planned investments across the state between July 2025 and June 2026. Those projects are expected to generate approximately 26,225 new jobs, underscoring Arizona’s continued momentum as a destination for business growth and innovation.
Superior Mayor Mila Besich has been installed as the new President of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns (the League). Formed in 1937, the League is a high-impact non-profit organization that promotes local self-government, municipal independence and provides professional and high-quality assistance to its members. Additionally, the League is the only organization that connects all 91 incorporated municipalities in the State of Arizona regardless of size or location.
Mayor Besich previously served a two-year term as Vice President of the League and has now succeeded Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke as President. Besich is a highly respected vocal and dedicated advocate for the Town of Superior and Arizona’s rural communities and is deeply involved in critical issues affecting municipalities across the state and the U.S. as well. Besich, a Flinn-Brown Fellow, recognizing her as an experienced civic leader, also serves as Vice Chair of the National League of Cities (NLC) 2025 Energy, Environment and Natural Resources (EENR) Federal Advocacy committees.
With her latest appointment, Besich, along with the organization’s leadership, will continue important work across a full spectrum of services, including addressing legislative and regulatory issues, providing technical assistance, information and inquiry reporting, resources and publications, convening conferences, delivering training, and continued collaboration with affiliate groups.
