Superior 2026 State of the Town Marks 50 Years of Incorporation

October 15, 2026

On Saturday, October 10, Superior hosted the 2026 State of the Town while simultaneously celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Town’s incorporation. Hosted by Rebuild Superior, Inc. in partnership with the Town of Superior government, this year’s “Lift Off to Our Future” theme honors the community’s rich history while looking ahead to the opportunities that will shape its next 50 years.

During Mayor Besich’s State of the Town address, she highlighted 50 years of incorporation and a legacy of resilience, community service and forward-thinking leadership. Since becoming an independent municipality in 1976, Superior has strengthened essential community resources, including its food bank and Senior Center, while building local public safety capabilities and creating a foundation for long-term economic development. These accomplishments reflect the community’s enduring commitment to supporting residents and preparing for future generations.

A defining milestone this year was the completion of the Resolution Copper land exchange, marking a historic turning point for Superior and opening new opportunities for economic growth. The Town also finalized a landmark $20 million water agreement with Resolution Copper and advanced plans for recreational trails and a campground, and equally important, economic development initiatives. With a land-use plan selected for 546 acres encompassing the airport and surrounding properties, Superior is preparing for high-quality investment, job creation, housing opportunities and a more diversified economy. The Town is also strengthening public safety leadership and building relationships with international delegations focused on critical minerals and emerging IT, AI and autonomous mobility technologies.

Looking ahead, Superior is focused on transforming these milestones into lasting benefits for residents, businesses and future generations. Priorities include attracting new industries, expanding workforce and educational opportunities, supporting local entrepreneurship, improving housing options and enhancing parks, trails and community amenities. Through collaboration among Town leadership, community partners and local employers, Superior aims to build a competitive, resilient community that embraces its growing role in the global economy while preserving the small-town character and neighborly spirit that define it. As Superior looks toward its next 50 years, its vision is to create a thriving community where future generations can live, learn, work and innovate.
