For the fifth time, Arizona State University (ASU) has earned a place among the top 10 universities worldwide for U.S. utility patents on the National Academy of Inventors’ annual Top 100 Worldwide Universities list.
ASU ranked No. 9 globally for the third straight year and climbed one spot to No. 5 nationally among universities awarded U.S. utility patents in calendar year 2025 — ahead of Harvard, Johns Hopkins University and The California Institute of Technology (Caltech). This achievement marks the eighth consecutive year ASU has ranked in the top 10 nationally.
The university was awarded 185 U.S. utility patents in calendar year 2025, up from 180 the previous year. Among the 2025 patents are an assistive device designed to help people with limited mobility move from sitting to standing, technology that converts plain language into complex technical queries for artificial intelligence and other advanced applications, and an innovation that supports neurodegenerative testing.
This latest ranking adds to ASU’s growing list of accolades, including holding the top spot for eleven consecutive years as the most innovative university in the world (U.S. News & World Report) and one of the top 10 universities nationally for Interdisciplinary Science (Times Higher Education).
For employers, workers and residents of Superior, two of ASU’s campuses are within an easy commute: ASU’s Main Campus in Tempe, located less than 60 minutes from Superior, and ASU’s Polytechnic Campus in Mesa, only 45 minutes from Superior.
