BLM Land Protections for Tonto National Forest Near Superior

July 16, 2024

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has confirmed new protections for 276 acres in Tonto National Forest within Superior’s Town limits, including areas near the Municipal Airport and Fairview Cemetery. A Public Land Order formalizing the land withdrawal will be published in tomorrow’s Federal Register.

Authorized by the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act, Congress approved the sale of these lands to the Town of Superior. The newly established protections will prevent new mining claims for the next 20 years, while still allowing for mineral and geothermal leasing activities.
