State of Arizona Receives Sixth Consecutive Golden Shovel Award

June 22, 2026

For the sixth consecutive year, Arizona has earned a Golden Shovel Award from Area Development Magazine. The publication recognizes states that demonstrate exceptional success in attracting major economic development projects. Drawing on data submitted by state economic development agencies, it evaluates projects based on factors such as job creation, capital investment, industry diversification and the effectiveness of each state’s economic development strategy. To ensure equitable comparisons, Gold and Silver Shovel Awards are awarded across five population-based categories.

Since 2012, Arizona has earned eight Gold Shovel Awards and six Silver Shovel Awards for economic development excellence. Notably, all eight Gold Shovel honors have been awarded within the past decade, underscoring the state’s strong economic momentum, sustained growth and continued success in attracting major investment and job creation.
