Phoenix Metro Area Shows Strong Population Growth

March 13, 2025

From 2023 to 2024, the population in U.S. metro areas grew by nearly 3.2 million (approximately 1.1%), reaching a total of 293.9 million. In contrast, the overall U.S. population rose by about 1.0%, surpassing 340 million people.

Comprising the Phoenix Metro Area, both Maricopa and Pinal counties experienced significant population growth between 2023 and 2024. Maricopa County ranked 3rd for most numeric population growth among populous counties, while Pinal County ranked 5th out of the top 10 counties for highest percentage growth among resident populations of 20,000 or more in 2023 and 2024.

A major factor contributing to metro growth was the positive net international migration between 2023 and 2024, with nearly 2.7 million new residents joining metro populations as part of this trend.
